Salman Khan in Court Again

Both the defense counsel and the public prosecutor completed their arguments on Saturday morning. The Sessions Court in Jodhpur on Saturday granted bail to actor Salman Khan in the nearly two-decades-old blackbuck poaching case. Khan's release was ordered on a bail bond of Rs.50,000. The court also allowed suspension of sentence during the pendency of Salman's appeal against his conviction. In addition, the court added a condition that Khan cannot leave the country without the court's permission.

Dalits across the country

As  Dalits across the country  took to the streets this week, protesting the Supreme Court order diluting the provisions of the  Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act , an unusual coming together happened in Uttar Pradesh. Samajwadi Party (SP) workers, with a history of violence and hostility towards Dalits and the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), joined the protesting Dalits in large numbers. The SP has since announced grand plans to celebrate the 127th birth anniversary of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar.
